CHAPTER TEN

It was Thursday, the day I was scheduled to do the commercial for Villa DePandi. I woke up earlier than usual to go jogging in Central Park. Dressed in my white zip-up hoodie and a pair of cropped yoga pants, I headed from my building apartment toward the park.

Outside of the building, I stood inhaling the fresh morning air. I looked both ways before I crossed the street and started to run through Central Park, listening to music on my iPod. Despite the early hour, there were plenty of other joggers around.

I ran by the pond and past the playground then decided to explore the famous bridge that I had seen in movies. The music blaring through my iPod motivated me to increase my speed.

While running under the bridge, I suddenly felt someone grab me by the elbow and drag me to the side. My ear buds were pulled off my ears as my back hit someone’s chest.

“For God’s sake, woman, are you crazy?”

Even through my shock, I immediately recognized his voice. His accent was unmistakable. Furiously, I turned and slapped his face so hard that I hurt my own hand. I screamed in pain.

“Ow, my hand!” I cried.

JC was staring at me when I looked up from my bruised hand, he was looking at me as if he wanted to devour me. Even under the shadowy bridge, I could clearly see his emerald eyes.

He pinned me to the wall, his denim jeans brushing my legs. He was wearing a wrinkled white dress shirt with the first four buttons open. Even in his rumpled clothes and messed up hair, he still looked hot.

I tried to push him away, but he barely moved. Shit, he is so strong! I tried again to get away from him, but it was hopeless.

“JC, let me go! What are you doing? Stop stalking me!” I yelled, starting to get scared. He was freaking me out.

He ignored my plea. “What are you doing here at dawn? It is not safe, Sky. You were unable to hear me, and someone could have attacked you.”

Despite the pain in my hand, I wanted to slap him again, but he had my hands pinned to the wall. “For your information, mister, it’s a public place. I wasn’t alone, there are plenty of other people here doing the same thing I am. The only attacker here is you.”

He let go of my hands and began to pace back and forth in front of me like a caged animal. I took the chance to study him more closely. His eyes were tired and had dark circles under them, but still he looked gorgeous.

JC lifted his gaze and met my eyes. He clenched his jaw repeatedly, fuming mad.

“Some of these people could be killers or rapists. This is the last time you come here alone, you hear me?” His tone was gruff and angry.

“Excuse me, you can’t tell me what to do. Who do you think you are?”

We stared at each other defiantly, and I found myself caught in his smoky, intense gaze.
